Alex/Kenton210 Round Table still moving swiftly into the future!!

Just a short report on the activities so far..

Apologies for the long wait between articles folks, but the silent PRO is back with a few activities to comment on.

Starting with our Golf Day, a small field of golfers, some including 1st time golfers came out in support. Wonderful weather and great fellowship ended up making it a successful day.

Fabrizio and Marco with the golf day champ on the day.

A little socializing while waiting for the last golfers to finish.

Our intention is to grow this event significantly over the next few years, and possibly moving it to an earlier date in the year, but time will tell, and be sure we will remind everyone. ;-)
Thanks to everyone involved in the time and effort in making the Golf Day work.

Winters Knights

Winters Knights is a national Round Table project where Round Table members collect clothing, blankets and food in aid of their respective communities.

 Marco, Maryke, Alan and Guillym.

 Jacques, Maryke and Alan.

A few more bags of clothing also joined this pyramid of food.

The proceeds of the collection went to the Kenton Cares community initiative. We Have to thank the Kenton Community for the support they showed us during our collection.

Sunshine Coast Biker Rally

Next up came the weekend where the Alex/Kenton210 Round Tabler's and their better halves ran the bar at the Sunshine Coast Rally. Festivities started on the Thursday when the facilities were prepared at the hall at Stanley's.
The bar was maintained until the early hours of Sunday morning. Fun was had by all, some more than others, but it was a wonderful experience to meet a large variety of new people. Initially the weather was of concern, but luckily for all the sun did manage to make an appearance just in time for the folks that stayed in tents.

And then we also had a few guest appearances from past Tabler's, Pierre van Rensburg and Maryke Taljaard getting into the vibe of things with a few items procured at the stalls outside.

Superbru

Then came our Superbru fundraiser, which was a 1st time project for Alex/Kenton210. In short, Superbru is a score prediction game where points are allocated for choosing the victorious team and selecting the winning margin. This saw a group of 25 player take part in this years Super Rugby season. An entry fee of R200 was charged, of which the 1st half would go to the pool champion at the end of the tournament and the other half be used for a charity.

At the end of the tournament Frank Catherine was crowned champion, but due to being an out of town resident his sister Cynthia Catherine accepted the winnings on his behalf.
Cynthia Catherine and Project Convener, Jacques van Wyk.

We are aiming on increasing the number of players for the next season , with prizes for the first 3 places and a few spot prizes for the die-hard players that do not end up in the top 3.

I have to thank everyone for contributing towards this fundraiser. As a closing note Superbru also pointed out that one does not need to watch rugby to be a contender, as Guillym Theron, the ever present Tabler up for any challenge, who doesn't really watch rugby, managed to fly up the ranks to take second spot. Well Done Guilly!!!

This is Guillym...

Kenton Capers is also back on track with rehearsals already on the go. Here are a few of the pictures from rehearsal time. Please come and support us while we attempt to look serious while entertaining the locals and holiday makers at the end of the year.

Alex/Kenton 210 at Area Conference

With Alan (AKA Steve) finishing off his year as E.P. Area Chairman it was a given that Alex/Kenton 210 would be there in force, to lend a little bit of support to a machine of a Tabler.

The climax of the weekend was with the Saturday evening function, with a theme of "Formal but not Normal", where the ladies and gents came out 'sporting' a couple of fancy outfits.

An absolute wonderful function organised by Zwarkops 195 (PE).

Lots of fun was had by all and it was a very well run Weekend.

On a last note, Alex/Kenton 210 managed to walk away with 3 Trophies on the night.
- Details to follow.

Annual Raft Race

On Sunday Morning after the Induction Dinner, Alex/Kenton once again hosted a Raft Race. Which saw a number of people waking up early to attend.

This year saw the Uitenhage Round Table lifting their game and bring to the race a work of art and an engineering master piece. The Uitenhage Pirates designed a hand powered Ferris-wheel float that placed them as pre-race favourites, however as we would learn later on, a lack steering and a frame malfunction caused them to zigzag across the river, leaving a gap open.

That gap was taken by the Port Alfred modified bath-tub rig, who in return snuck into 1st position and finish the race in that as the over all winners.

The race was on for the last position, with the swirling torpedo float (swirling, because its crew spend most of the time rolling over into the water) of Swartkops taking an early lead, but thanks to some serious rowing power from the "walking on water" raft of Alex/Kenton the tables started turning.

It must be said, the "walking on water" needs an explanation, we seemed to not have made sure of the exact amount of flotation we required, which resulted in our raft working more like a submarine than a raft.

Needless to say Alex/Kenton managed to get in front of Swartkops, but our rowing speed seemed to be running out of power, so we did the next best thing, and decided to ram the Swartkops raft.

This educated gamble paid off and resulted in Alex/Kenton getting stuck to the front of the Swartkops raft, this allowed Alex/Kenton to sneak over the finishing line in a technical, but valid 3rd place.

Thank you to all the spectators and individuals who also decided to bring their own tyre-tubes/flotation devices and enjoyed the festivities.

A bring and braai was held at the Alex/Kenton 210 clubhouse at middle beach, where the trophy's were handed over.

Induction Dinner 25th of January 2014

And so ended another year of office for the Alex/Kenton210 Round Table.

Things were changed for this year's induction dinner, with the combination of not two(like the previous years) but four Round Table clubs merging into one induction dinner.

As things would have it, Alex/Kenton 210 had the chance of being the 1st Round Table to host this combined induction dinner.

With a James Bond themed evening, and a wonderful function venue at the Stanley's Hall lots of fun memories were once again made.

Jacques van Wyk ending his year, and handing over to Alan Malan who will once again take over the role as chairman for this coming year.
